You're mugging me right off...

Dear EE, May I suggest some SERIOUS training with your staff? Having had my phone stolen on Saturday let me fill you in on what I have had to endure since then.

First off I was a previous Orange customer before the merge. Therefore after my phone was stolen I went on the website to find how to cancel it. Unfortunately the only way to cancel your phone is to phone up. Can you see where this can cause problems? May I suggest a live chat option on the site for those who do not have access to a replacement phone or friend to call you.

Luckily I was able to call Customer Services (CS) and have them cancel my phone. I was informed I could go into an EE store to collect a replacement SIM free of charge. So this is what I did on Monday during my lunch break.

First off I went to Holborn and was told in here they can’t do it but I could go to the Fleet Street branch where they could help me. So I did (we’re nearly an hour into the lunch break now due to all the walking). Here I was told sure I can have a replacement SIM – but it costs £10. Not free like CS told me on the phone. Your man in the shop also – serious attitude problem. He basically said to me ’it’s not my problem what CS have told you it’s a tenner – deal with it’.

I called CS (again) who apologised and said pay the £10 and they will credit this on my next bill. So I agreed. I went about purchasing my ‘free’ replacement SIM. The guy got it from the back and started explaining what to do with it. Luckily I asked if it mattered that it was a T-Mobile SIM and I was a previous Orange customer. He said yes of course it matters this T-Mobile replacement SIM would not work. So I asked for an Orange SIM. They don’t do Orange replacement SIM’s in store – only over the phone.

I called CS (again) after explaining my predicament CS told me ‘of course you can get one in store’; so I put her on the phone to the rep in the EE store where they proceeded to have an argument about who was right. The man in your store won and I was told to phone up for my replacement SIM. By this time I had almost been two hours so I had to back to the office; where....

I called CS (are you getting the picture here?) Your man this time said he was terribly sorry and would be able to get me a SIM out between 0830 and 1230 THE VERY NEXT DAY! Marvellous I said. I confirmed all my address details with him. The next day I arrive home after 6; no SIM.

I called CS. Here’s what happened next:
ME: Hi, where’s my SIM please?
CS: It was successfully delivered at 4pm.
ME: There is nothing in my post box from you – or a failed delivery slip.
CS: It was definitely delivered to (Street Name) by UK Mail at 4pm
ME: What number?
CS: There is no number
ME: Well how can they deliver if there is no number? I confirmed a number with your man yesterday.

CS: Oh yes there is a number on here but not in the delivery notes. I don’t know where it’s been delivered – but do you know you can get one in store?!

ME: *BANGS HEAD ON TABLE IN FRUSTRATION WHILE EXPLAINING YESTERDAY’S ORDEAL*
CS: OK I will post you a new one. But if you’re not in there’s a charge and you have to give back your old SIM. It’s the rules

ME: *ALMOST CIRES WITH STUPIDITY OF THIS STATEMENT*
ME: How can I hand back my old SIM, It’s been stolen – that’s why we’re having this conversation. I clicked through all those LOST/STOLEN options on the menu and you asked me at the beginning of the call what has happened to my current SIM, where I told you my phone was stolen.

CS: OK well you have to pay a charge if you’re not in
ME: How can I not be in my POST BOX? You said they are posting it in the POST BOX you said that’s what HAPPENED TODAY!!! While we’re on that, even if I had a SIM am I expected to stand by the post box waiting for your delivery man? Or will you have him call me to say he is standing waiting for receipt of my stolen SIM...Oh wait he can’t I HAVE NO PHONE!!!

It makes one wonder what has happened to Orange and T-Mobile since merging. Perhaps you have spent all your money on Kevin Bacon and thus cannot afford to hire anyone with any competence – or have any protocols in place to deal with those pesky things some businesses like to call ‘customers’. I have now resorted at scoffing to myself every time I call your line and hear you are ‘dedicated to excellent customer service’. Your staff members in store told me there is no communication between your call centre and stores nor any consideration of Orange vs T-Mobile protocols.

You have given me about the same level of stress than the actual mugging that left me in this position.

I DREAD to think what may happen tomorrow if this magical SIM is going to arrive or if a burly delivery man is going to refuse to give it to me until I pay him / give him my stolen SIM.

Congratulations EE – for possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Restaurant Review: Viet Grill

It's like a universal truth, whenever you travel anywhere you don't like to stay too near to your accommodation to eat/drink thinking there must be more to do further a field. I think the same principle applies to where you live. For a few years I have lived within stumbling distance of little Vietnam. The area in Hoxton lined with authentic Vietnamese restaurants. I have tried a few in my time but considering I go by every day I really ought to try more.

Last week (yep I'm behind...) we went to Viet Grill - the general decision making process is which one looks busy therefore it must be good. Generally this one is busy and it has lovely decor - which was impossible to capture with my iPhone. As I was tired and a little bit stressed champagne was necessary. Probably not the best match with Vietnamese food but I just didn't care.
Viet Grill, Kingsland Road

We couldn't decide what we wanted for starters so we opted for a seafood sharing platter. This had battered prawns, squid and what we thought was crab. It was tasty anyway and my stress began to disappear. On a side note I absolutely love these huge vats of Chili sauce. Although they sell them in regular supermarkets I wouldn't buy one or nothing I eat would taste of anything other than chili...

For my main I went for pork and shrimp wonton pho. It was a pressure order at the last minute as I was really not feeling very decisive. The wontons and noodles were good but the soup was a little boring. Of course I doused it in chili...
Wonton Pho
B's beansprout fiesta
Little wonton brain
B went for a very simple noodle/beansprout salady thing, which wasn't as good as mine (a concurred conclusion). We opted to grab a bar of galaxy on the way home instead of having dessert - this is the perk of eating close to home.

aaaand we're spent
I would recommend this particular Vietnamese, the atmosphere and crowd were both great. The service was a little ropey but the food is decent and inexpensive. Must try more of these little gems...

Atmosphere: 3/5
Food: 3/5
Drink: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 It's not going to knock your socks off, but good honest food, quick and dirty.

My Week in Instagram

So I have misplaced the cable that links my camera to my computer. This is a major frustration. I managed to  get the pictures from Radio 1 Hackney Weekend onto my hard drive in a very round about way, it involved another PC that has a working SD slot...very annoying. The most frustrating part? I know it MUST be in the house. I used it like a week ago. Anyway, serious tight chest looking for it all over the place.

In the meantime I have taken a few little snaps via Instagram, mainly on Saturday evening at a friends birthday party. I felt I had a totally undeserved hangover on Sunday when I woke up with standard hangover number 4; the 'Oh my god what is happening in my mouth dehydration' hangover. It wasn't until I remembered the offending seemingly innocent half pint of vodka jelly I gobbled up earlier in the evening (well it was a birthday party...jelly is a must).

Do not be fooled by innocent appearances...

Porn Star Marinis
Real men are comfortable drinking martinis...and kissing
My camera skills know no bounds
I seriously do not remember rocking shades...
...but I do the next day
Mini mud...this will get worse...
As honestly, it rained RELENTLESSLY...
for about 5 minutes
I think this was the start of the 'chicken' dance
This is something I am very excited about...
One of my fave restaurants coming to London
...Now I must hunt for my camera cable and get back to proper posts!

Instagram Italia

Following a week in Southern Italy, I have taken a million photos. What I have managed to do however was take some ruddy good ones with my favourite toy...Instagram. Who needs a Canon with a zzzillion megapixels, a million times zoom when you can have your mobile and a dozen filters!

Drinking...

It all starts with a bottle of champers on the plane (obviously...) although I know drink goes to your head faster at altitude (skiing anyone?!) the same rule doesn't apply to me when flying. I seem to be immune to the effects of alcohol, and time...and sleep for that matter.

Upon landing the traditional beverage of choice is the strawberry daiquiri. This particular one was served on the terrace of the hotel. It felt at times like we were the only guests, oh the joys of travelling outside of peak times.

If you ever travel to Sorrento you will be going for a drink at the Fauno bar. It is 'the' place to see and be seen. People watching to the extreme...as you often see the same person two of three times (Sorrento is a small town!) The picture above is the view through my Nastro Azzurro (Peroni to you and I). Everywhere you have a drink you are also presented with peanuts, crisps and other assorted goods.

More importantly...

Eating

The next thing I will be blogging about is the amazing fooooood I both ate and bought, including this cuttlefish black spaghetti above. Lord knows what I'm going to do with it yet but it's long, black and I'm very excited about it...
 Pasta, pasta everywhere...
This particularly charming display was outside one of the more fragrant lemon pasta shops. Sorrento specialises in locally grown oranges and lemons and what do they do with them? Limoncello...(of course), lemon pasta, lemon soap, lemon oil, lemons lemons, lemons...
The fruit is so much better than you get in this country, they are ridiculous. The sizes alone are spectacular. The colours, the smells and they are e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.

Sightseeing (ish)

OK so most of the sightseeing photos are on my camera, these are just some of the things I found a little interesting.
Daschund...I'm sold. Harmont & Blaine is an extremely popular men, women and children's designer. The clothes are very nautical and casual, my favourite thing about it however is the sign. Sucker.
The main square of Sorrento...take your life in your hands with the traffic it comes from all directions. Walk with conviction and look like you know what you're doing was my tactic and I'm still here to tell the tale...
This church, otherwise known as the bane of my holiday. Every 15 minutes for 24 hours of the day it bongs. Here is the drill...like a normal church at the hour it goes off with a number of 'bongs' that correspond to the time. In Italy however this isn't enough...no, no. Every 15 minutes after this you get the corresponding hour bongs followed by a 'bing' to signify the 15 minute past...example, at 2.15 AM (she stresses...) bong bong...bing (one bing for the first 'quarter' past). At 2.30 am...bong bong, bing bing. At 11.45pm bong x11 bing x3, enough to drive one insane.
Harbour, cruise ship (called Regent, not sure which company) with Mount Vesuvius in the background, your standard view...

Finally...

Your standard holiday shot.
Shame the plane seems to have gobbled up my tan...now if only the sun would come out for some Jubilee Fun!

New Photo App: Cinemagram

I'm not a big 'downloader' of apps. I like what I like and have not in anyway got into 'Draw Something', total waste of time. Some apps I have a lot of time for are photography. I am addicted to Instagram and tend to think the treatment on here makes me a professional photographer. A new one which could either go crazy or disappear is Cinemagram. I started off thinking the former, I was kind of addicted instantly trying to think of things to do-this is where I kind of fell down.

Cinemagram is an iPhone app that lets you take a short video (literally a couple of seconds) then animate only a small part of this, giving the impression of something that shouldn't be happening. Turns out this is a difficult concept to describe to someone in the pub, as the point is it shouldn't be any bit of video you could just take-it needs to be reality suspending.

Some great examples I've seen use shadows and mirrors...you get the idea. My attempts have been pretty futile. As you can see...I'm using the limited resources at my disposal...

I unfortunately don't have loads of photography time being at work all day, so you make do. I intend to do more interesting things - but in the meantime go to the app store and download while it's still free and before everyone else buys it and whacks the price tag up...I promise I'll work on something more exciting.

Week in Pictures

Instagram is my best friend. I am also playing with a new photography app, should I manage to master it I will post some even more awesome pictures...(if I do say so myself). Here are some of the things I've seen this week - the world of iPhone, Instagram and my Canon collide...
