We Feast; Pizza Pilgrims and Something Sweet

As per yesterday's post this weekend Guy's Hospital Quadrangle played host to 'the foodies Glastonbury'. We've seen the main vendors peddling their own very special brand of both street and restaurant food from all over London, but I've saved the best for last.

Walking around the stalls one in particular stood out. Serving freshly made pizza in front of you in their custom made pizza oven (which also happens to be a three wheeled mini truck), Pizza Pilgrims are the new kids on the block making a big impression.

Not being able to decide between Salami or Mushroom with Garlic I had them all. Loads of topping on one fresh. thin, stone fired base of Napoli goodness. There was also a chili number which is slow cooked pork belly that can be cooked on your pizza. I had a try thinking it wouldn't be too spicy. I literally almost started to cry it was so delicious yet so hot. Totally worth it though, until I tried to save my eye make up using the same hand I picked up the chili with = error!

The pizza was absolutely delicious really thin and behaves as a good pizza should..all stringy and falling apart, needing to be folded in half and eaten to be appreciated. Although there was no trouble in polishing it off, I was completely stuffed afterwards.

On my initial walk around I came across these beauties. However having a brownie first would be bad form.

What I didn't realise is that these bad boys would sell out. School boy error, should have bought first and eaten after my pizza. They had escaped my clutches. Gutted.

There was luckily plenty of other sweet goodness on offer including Meringue Girls (cute name)

As well as these beauties and brownies, the dessert du jour seemed to be Macaroons. These little beauties were from Le Petit Paris

Which looked pretty good...but not as good however as those from Hawksmoor's Queen of Puddings Carla Henriques, four absolutely delicious flavours of mint chocolate, salted caramel, raspberry and forrero rocher.

The best was the salted caramel. The one above is the forrero rocher. They were as good as any other Macaroons I've ever had if not better (and yes this includes Laduree). As well as my pilgrimage to Berwick Street for a burger any day now I will also be heading to Hawksmoor for a steak and some of these.

I could eat these again now. All salted caramel with a mint chocolate chip to finish, it was incredibly minty and thus palette cleansing. Depending on when you read this you may or may not still have time to get to We Feast. They are serving until 10pm on Sunday (5th August). Online advance tickets are sold out but they were accepting walk in's for £8 entry.

We Feast London, Street Food Festival

I'm breaking this into two parts...there are too many delicious food stuffs on offer to be in one post.

We Feast London is serving up some of the finest restaurants in London all in one place. From authentic street food to burgers, Hawkmoor and Jose Pizarro's famous Jamón Ibérico, We Feast London does exactly what it says on the tin, with some serious muscle from London's best restaurants.

The extra touches make all the difference

We started off having a wander around all the stalls to see what was bring cooked up before committing to any one food stuff...this was going to have to be tackled strategically. There were so many good things to wrap your chops around, but for now we are just going to look at the savoury. 

First up Hawksmoor were grilling up some of their famous burgers (the restaurant more famous for steak...a bit hard to do those from a tent!) as well as macaroons from their 'Queen of Puddings' Carla Henriques.

As you can see, the rain decided to make an appearance but it didn't matter to anyone else. The menu's may have gotten a wash, but the brollies came out and the feasting continued.

Jose Pizarro was slicing his ridiculously delicious meats, and also had garlic prawns on offer. These were going to be tough to ignore....

His restaurant in Bermondsey Street was one of the first things I ever blogged about, and remains my favourite tapas place in London. If you haven't been take a look here and get going!

Authentic street food vendors included those who used to be my lunchtime hot spots. Bahn Mi 11 had one of the biggest lines serving Vietnamese street food in baguette form.

One place that got my FULL attention was Patty and Bun, still on the mission to find London's Best Burger I was enthralled with this display of metly-cheesy goodness

Patty and Bun are usually at The Endurance Pub on Berwick street, I will definitely be making a trip down there any day now. I decided against the burger for now, but later wondered what it would be like taken away and eaten later...then wisely decided against it.

Barbecoa made an appearance with their pulled pork and slaw. As previously reviewed the pork is good, and if you haven't tried Pitt Cue you may think it's out of this world. Still, it is good pork, sticky and sweet with a strong BBQ flavour... it would be rude to not have a little nibble

The piccalilli was good, I didn't try the others as I'm frightened of beetroot in it's obvious forms and apple sauce gives me the heeby-jeebies. It was good and the bread was much denser than I was expecting making my respectably large mouthful last longer than was polite before I was able to talk again.

Soya, another old neighbour from Leather Lane market were doing a roaring trade of their fresh seafood and noodle dishes. A serious amount of prawn-age on the grill.

With so much choice this is a fantastic day out. They are open tomorrow again and if you don't have tickets you can walk up and buy one on the day for £8. Grab your friends and cash (no cards) and fill your boots. Where else will you get to try all of this? I'm saving the best for last however...Stay tuned for the sweetest, naughtiest treats and the most delicious savoury food of the day.

Now please excuse me while I have an overstuffed nap...do you think I can get away with stretchy pants to go out this evening?!

Bogan Bingo

Need something exciting, fun and different to do in London? Going out in London can become repetitive, yes there are a zillion bars and hundreds of new restaurants opening every week (subtle over estimation) but drinking and eating sometimes needs something extra...how about giving drunken people bingo dabbers, dressing up as aussie 'chavs' and heading on down to Clapham Common? Yes it really as good as it sounds.

COME ON

What is a Bogan you may ask? Our friends at Wiki say this: an individual who is recognised to be from an unsophisticated background or someone whose limited education, speech, clothing, attitude and behaviour exemplifies a lack of manners and education. Throw in some 80s tunes, comedy, prizes AND happy hour, your Thursday's need never be standard again.

Our hosts for the evening are amazing we want their moves. The evening consists of lewd bingo calls many of which call for audience participation (not that I shall be repeating any here, this is SFW!) The atmosphere is incredible and my voice was sore from singing. I was ROBBED in game one with only two numbers to go, however not winning is a blessing in disguise, the winners are subject to public humiliation / harmless drunken fun. This includes but not limited to hoedown style dancing to the song 'there was a farmer who had a dog and bingo was his name o!'

Batman @ Rich Mix

Have you seen The Dark Knight Rises yet? If not I highly recommend you go and see it. Watch the others in the series first so you remember where we left off...I watched them about two months ago so could pretty much remember, although I'm still not sure if something something happened to something someone...(OK I'm not giving ANYTHING away!!)

The Dark Knight Rises!

The venue for this monumental movie watching (I literally haven't been to the cinema in an age, probably last year...it takes a lot for me to commit to an evening of popcorn) was Rich Mix on Bethnal Green road. It is an amazing 'local' cinema. I remember falling in love instantly a few years ago when I realised you could take beer in! As well as the cinema the complex has a bar/cafe and sort of function room that holds everything from live music, theatre and at the minute a large screen with Olympics coverage. It is a really nice place to chill out.


The decor throughout the cinema and hallways is also gorgeous. From London landmarks printed in Pink on the walls to animal wallpaper forged in the way to make you really think. The interiors of the screens are all different and equally as nice as the next. Much chicer than your average Odeon or Vue...no cold corporate feeling here. Also no need for 'standard' or 'luxury', all the seats are enormous and really comfy. As well as the blockbusters they show some smaller films and documentaries. If you are in the East London area, I recommend you check it out! (More here)

Now on the subject of popcorn why is it a universal truth that it all seems to magically disappear before the film has started? And is it only me who on getting home are finding bits of popcorn everywhere?
